About
Deliberately small, and close to the work.
Wraight Consulting Limited is a family-run consultancy covering workplace IT and platform engineering. The people you talk to are the people doing the work, and we keep the client list short so we can know your systems properly and answer quickly.
What we do
Two things, and they inform each other more than you'd expect.
Workplace. We look after Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace: the tenant, the identities, the mailboxes, the licences, and the filtering and security around them. Much of this work is with organisations running several sites, brands or entities on a single tenant, where the skill is keeping those groups cleanly separated while they share one platform.
Platform. Cloud infrastructure defined as code, build and deployment pipelines, and the monitoring that tells you whether all of it is working. This is engineering practice applied daily, and it's what separates us from a general IT support firm.
The overlap is automation. Where a job repeats often enough to be worth doing properly, we build it as code, test it, put it behind a pipeline, and hand the result to your own staff as something they can run themselves.
Web work
We also build and run websites, and have done for years. Design, build, hosting, and the practical side of getting a site found. It sits alongside the two main practices rather than competing with them, so we take on a limited number of projects at a time.
Brochure sites, content sites and small tools are the right fit. An e-commerce platform or a large custom application isn't, and we'd rather point you elsewhere than take it on and do it slowly.
Who we are
A family-run business. Our Managing Director looks after the company and the client relationships; our IT Director leads the technical work across both practices. For larger pieces of work we bring in a specialist we've worked with for years, rather than hiring in a hurry.
That structure is deliberate. It keeps overheads low, decisions quick, and the person who scoped your work the same person who delivers it.
Who we work with
Mostly organisations without an in-house IT department, where Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace is the whole IT estate and it deserves proper attention. Also engineering and IT teams who want an extra pair of hands on a migration or a platform build, or an experienced second opinion on a supplier's proposal.
Our deepest experience is in education: schools, trusts, independent providers and alternative provision, including SEND settings, where the administrative load is heavier and safeguarding has to be right first time. That is where the depth is, but the same work applies anywhere Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace does.
We take on a limited number of clients at a time, so your systems are ones we already know.
How we work
- Written down. Configuration is recorded and, wherever possible, defined as code and kept in version control. Nothing important lives only in our heads. Everything we build stays yours, with a handover you could give to anyone.
- Least privilege by default. We hold the access a task requires, for as long as it requires it.
- Changes are reversible. Anything that touches live accounts or live infrastructure is previewed before it runs, and can be rolled back after it has.
- Plain English. Reports are written for the people who have to act on them, not for other engineers.
Background
Between us we have spent most of our working lives in and around schools, on both sides of the staffroom.
Our Managing Director spent a decade in education: first in pastoral teams, then as a Year Manager, and finally as Director of Safeguarding for a large school. Our IT Director came up through the same sector on the technical side: Network Manager, then Virtual Learning Environment Manager, then Head of IT Services for a trust of five schools, running the IT, media and web teams.
For the past eight years that technical work has been in the private sector, as a DevOps and platform engineer and then Head of Cloud Infrastructure. It spans the whole stack: physical networks and hardware, Windows and Linux estates, and production workloads across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud and Oracle, defined in Terraform and run on Kubernetes.
The combination is the useful part. When a school asks us about filtering, monitoring or a safeguarding audit, the conversation isn't only about how to configure it. We have sat on the safeguarding side of that decision as well.
Registration, insurance and checks
Wraight Consulting Limited is registered in England and Wales, company number 14949847, and is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office under registration ZB708397.
We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance. If your procurement process needs to see the certificate, ask and we'll send it.
Both directors hold an enhanced DBS certificate. Schools normally arrange their own check for each setting they engage a supplier in, and we are glad to go through that process. Tell us what your safeguarding lead needs.
Happy to talk before you commit to anything.
